Service Before Self

Seeing the news channels nowadays reminds me of this line which happens to be the motto of my Alma mater. So much violence among the student community. We had the case of the Professor in Meerut being manhandled by students for no fault of his. Unfortunately he lost his life in the scuffle. There was this news about people ransacking and disrupting the sanctity of a school premise at the Loreto Convent.

What has happened to everyone? Is this a pent up anger that's suddenly erupting? Have we as citizens of this country lost our traditional shahanshilta (Patience)? Are we redefining the meaning of Democracy by taking matters into our own hands? Is the method/means to achieve this correct/justified? These are just a few questions that go thru one's mind when such incidents happen.

The great JFK said "Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You. Ask What YOU Can Do For Your Country." This in the true sense captures the essence of 'Service Before Self'. Because only when we think of putting our self interests in the back seat and think of the development of the society/community/country do we genuinely achieve the development of the self. No one can grow individually. It takes a group to achieve growth. this may sound like a lot of gyaan but it's a tried and tested way and never fails.

We as a country have to achieve greater heights in all fields where we have proved our mettle. The ONLY way of doing this is by being more patient and giving the system a last chance. Things are changing for the good today and this change will continue. All it needs is our support.
